Find answers to the most common questions about our inbound package tracking software, from setup and hardware to notifications, chain-of-custody, and deployment options.

Overview

General Questions

New to TekTrack®? Start here. These answers cover the basics of our package tracking software and what makes it different from carrier tracking apps.

Q What is package tracking software?

Package tracking software helps organizations log, track, and deliver inbound packages from the moment they arrive at a facility to the moment they reach the recipient. Unlike carrier apps that stop at your building entrance, TekTrack® continues tracking every package through your internal process, capturing every scan, notification, and signature. Learn more on our package tracking software page.

Q What is the difference between carrier tracking and inbound package tracking software?

Carrier tracking (UPS, FedEx, USPS) tells you a package was delivered to your building. Inbound package tracking software picks up from there; it logs who received the package internally, when it was picked up, and who signed for it. TekTrack® bridges this gap with a complete chain-of-custody record inside your facility.

Q Who uses package tracking software?

TekTrack® is used by corporate offices, universities, healthcare facilities, government agencies, apartment communities, and law firms. Any organization that receives a meaningful volume of packages and needs accountability for every delivery benefits from our inbound package tracking software.

Q Is TekTrack® available as both cloud and on-premise software?

Yes. We offer both cloud-hosted and on-premise deployment. You choose the option that best fits your security, compliance, and IT infrastructure requirements. Both editions include the same full set of features and functionality.

Q Is a free trial available?

Yes. You can start a free trial at any time or schedule a one-on-one demo with our team to see TekTrack® configured for your specific environment.

Q How is TekTrack® different from a spreadsheet or paper log?

A spreadsheet typically relies on manual data entry — and while some people do scan barcodes into them, there are no automatic notifications and no proof of pickup. TekTrack® scans a barcode in seconds, automatically notifies the recipient, and captures a digital signature at pickup. Every record is permanent, searchable, and tamper-evident.

On-Premise Only

On-Premise Questions

Running TekTrack® on your own infrastructure? These answers cover PC requirements and network considerations for the on-premise edition.

Q What are the PC requirements for the On-Premise edition?

Below are the requirements for the PC hosting your TekTrack database. For any other PC running TekTrack, the same processor and memory requirements apply, but only 1GB of hard drive space is needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Processor: 1.4 GHz
  • Memory: 1GB
  • 15GB available hard drive space
Recommended Requirements

  • Processor: 2 GHz
  • Memory: 2GB
  • 25GB available hard drive space

Q Does my PC have to be connected to a network to use TekTrack?

No. TekTrack® can operate on a stand-alone computer without an internet or ethernet connection. Staff can continue logging packages during any network outage; all records sync automatically when connectivity is restored.

Q Can TekTrack be used offline?

Yes. Full offline functionality is built into TekTrack®. Whether you are using the on-premise or cloud edition, package scanning, logging, and signature capture all continue to work without an internet connection.

Cloud Edition

Cloud-Specific Questions

Using TekTrack® in the cloud? These answers address network considerations and integration options specific to the cloud edition.

Q Our network does not allow external connections through our firewall. Can I still import recipients from our ERP or Active Directory?

Yes. We provide several technology options that allow you to initiate imports and control how and when your information is pushed to the cloud, without requiring inbound firewall exceptions. Contact your TekCore representative to discuss the best approach for your network environment.

Getting Started

Setup & Hardware

TekTrack® is designed to be up and running the same day. No IT project. No implementation timeline. No complicated configuration.

Q How long does setup take?

Most organizations complete setup and process their first live packages the same day. No IT involvement is required. Your mailroom manager can configure the system, import your recipient directory, and train staff in a single session.

Q Do you sell hardware such as barcode scanners, label printers, and magnetic strip readers?

Yes. We are a one-stop shop for a complete package tracking solution. Our team can recommend the right hardware configuration for your volume and environment. Visit our online store for options.

Q Can I import my recipients and users?

Yes. It is common for customers to start by importing recipients and users from an Excel or CSV file. TekTrack® also supports automated imports from Active Directory, ERPs, and relational databases. Contact your TekCore representative for details about automated importing.

Q Can I use a phone or tablet for processing packages?

Yes. TekTrack® works on any phone, tablet, or workstation. If you process a large volume of packages and use your camera for reading barcodes, a dedicated barcode imager is recommended. See our guide on choosing the best barcode scanner for details.

Capabilities

Features & Capabilities

TekTrack® does much more than log packages. These answers cover notifications, signatures, multi-location support, carrier compatibility, and compliance.

Q Does TekTrack® automatically notify recipients when a package arrives?

Yes. The moment a package is scanned at intake, TekTrack® automatically sends an email or SMS notification to the recipient. No manual step is required, and notifications go out in seconds.

Q Does TekTrack® capture digital signatures at pickup?

Yes. When a recipient picks up their package, TekTrack® captures their digital signature along with the date and time. This creates a permanent, searchable chain-of-custody record for every delivery.

Q What carriers does TekTrack® recognize?

TekTrack® reads barcodes from all major carriers including UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, and Amazon.

Q Can TekTrack® support multiple mailrooms?

Yes. TekTrack® manages packages across multiple mailrooms, buildings, floors, or campuses from a single platform. Each mailroom operates independently with its own workflows, while a single login, unified reporting dashboard, and shared system covers your entire organization. Concurrent users are never an issue — there is no limit on how many staff members can be logged in and processing packages simultaneously, whether they are in the same mailroom or across different locations.

Q Is TekTrack® suitable for small organizations?

Yes. TekTrack® is used by organizations that receive 20 packages per day and by those that receive 2,000. Modular pricing means you only pay for what your organization needs right now.

Q Does TekTrack® provide audit trails for compliance?

Yes. Every scan, movement, notification, and signature is stored permanently in a searchable audit trail. TekTrack® is trusted by healthcare networks, government agencies, and other regulated organizations that require formal chain-of-custody documentation.
