Barcode Bridge

What Is Barcode Bridge?

A Bridge Between Your Mobile Scanner and Your Desktop

Barcode Bridge is a two-part software system. Both the Bridge app and Barcode Bridge Station include a workflow engine, each with actions suited to where they run.

The moment you scan a barcode, it travels over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth from the Bridge app to Station in under a second. Station receives it, displays it on a real-time dashboard, and fires any workflow rules you have configured. The data goes exactly where it needs to go without you typing a single character.

Whether you are using the camera on a consumer smartphone or the built-in imager on an enterprise mobile computer, the Bridge app delivers the scan to Station the same way. What happens next is up to you.

Use the Phone You Already Have

No dedicated scanner hardware required. Barcode Bridge runs on iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. Connect your phone to Station in seconds by scanning a QR code. No IP addresses to type.

Go Beyond Keyboard Emulation

Both apps include a workflow engine that fires conditional rules automatically. Bridge handles actions on your device; Station handles actions on your computer, including Excel, Google Sheets, email, and API calls.

🏠

Runs on Your Local Network

No cloud account required. Bridge communicates directly with Station over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Your barcode data never leaves your network. No subscription, no per-scan fees, no vendor lock-in.

How They Work Together

One System. Infinite Scanning Workflows.

Barcode Bridge and Station are designed to work as a pair. Both include the same workflow automation engine: define conditions, chain actions, and let every scan do real work the moment it arrives.

  • Camera-based reading on any consumer iOS or Android device via Google ML Kit
  • Native integration with enterprise mobile computers and dedicated barcode scanner hardware
  • Manual entry fallback when a barcode cannot be scanned optically
  • Organize scans into named batches for structured data collection sessions or multiple simultaneous team use
  • Connect multiple phones and tablets simultaneously; Station tracks each device independently
  • Audio confirmation beep on each successful scan so operators keep their eyes on the work

Barcode Bridge: Mobile App

The scanner app for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. Point the camera, scan the barcode, and the data is on its way to Station instantly. Also runs on enterprise mobile computers with built-in laser or imager hardware for industrial-grade read performance. Pair with any Station by scanning a QR code. No setup beyond that.

Barcode Bridge Station: Desktop App

The receiving hub and workflow engine for Windows and macOS. Station collects every scan, displays a real-time dashboard, and fires automation rules you define. Each rule has conditions (match by barcode pattern, device, batch, window in focus) and actions (keyboard inject, Excel export, Google Sheets, email, API call). No coding required.

How It Works

From Phone Scan to Automated Action in Seconds

Many phones can scan barcodes. The problem is getting that information to your computer and putting it to work.

1

Scan on Your Mobile Device

  • Scan 1D and 2D barcodes using your camera, integrated barcode reader, or barcode intent
  • Custom barcode processing instructions are applied to the scanned data
  • Action is taken and/or the barcode is sent to Station via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
2

Station Receives in Real Time

  • Watch scans appear instantly with device name, timestamp, and barcode type
  • Automatically route scans into separate named collections for multi-user and team collaboration
  • Monitor all connected devices and barcodes from a single dashboard
3

Workflows Fire Automatically

  • Automated data massaging to shape the barcode information the way you see fit
  • Route scans based on which application is open on your computer
  • Execute workflow actions automatically on every scan

    • Send the information to an application running on the computer
    • Append a row to an Excel spreadsheet or Google Sheet automatically
    • Send an email notification with the scan details and custom fields
    • And many other options…

Core Features

Everything Your Scanning Workflow Actually Needs

Barcode Bridge and Station cover the full range from simple keyboard emulation to sophisticated conditional automation, without requiring any programming knowledge.

Rule-Based Workflow Automation

Both Bridge and Station include a workflow engine for defining rules with conditions and action chains. Match on barcode value or pattern and chain as many actions as you need: send info to an application, write to a spreadsheet, send an email, call an API, transform the data, and much more. No scripting required.

📋

Excel and Google Sheets Export

Each scan can automatically append a row to a local Excel file or a live Google Sheet. Configure which columns map to which scan fields: barcode value, timestamp, device name, batch, custom variables. Your spreadsheet stays current with every scan without anyone opening a file or copying data.

Keyboard Emulation Into Any App

Station can type the scanned barcode, plus any prefix, suffix, or field separator you define, directly into the application that has focus on your PC. Works with any inventory system, ERP, order management tool, or custom application that accepts keyboard input. No API integration needed on the receiving application side.

💌

Email Actions on Any Scan

Configure a workflow action to send an email via your SMTP server when a specific barcode is scanned or a condition is met. Notify a manager when a flagged item is received, alert a warehouse team when a pallet is loaded, or send a confirmation to a customer when their order is processed, all automatically, scan by scan.

🌎

API Calls and Webhook Integration

POST scan data to any REST endpoint or internal webhook the moment a barcode arrives. Integrate Barcode Bridge Station with your ERP, inventory platform, CRM, or custom backend without writing a client application. Define the URL, headers, and body template once; Station handles the call for every matching scan.

👀

Foreground Window Detection

On Windows, Station captures which application has focus at the moment a scan arrives. Use this in workflow conditions to route the same barcode differently depending on what your operator has open: send to inventory software when the WMS is active, log to a spreadsheet when Excel is in focus, and do nothing when an unrelated window is open.

Workflow Automation Engine

A Scan Is a Trigger. You Decide What Happens Next.

Both apps share the same workflow engine, letting you attach logic to your scans so that every scan does exactly what you need it to do.

Set conditions based on the barcode’s content, which device sent it, which batch it belongs to, or which application is in focus on your screen. Then chain as many actions as you need: transform the data with regex, type it into an app, write it to a sheet, fire an email, and call an API, all in one rule, all in under a second.

Use Cases

Any Operation That Scans Barcodes and Does Something With the Data

Barcode Bridge replaces both dedicated scanner hardware and the manual steps that follow the scan. If your team currently scans a barcode and then types something, copies something, or emails someone, that entire sequence can be automated.

📦

Warehouse and Receiving

Log inbound shipments, append lot numbers to receiving logs, and notify teams automatically. Workers scan from their phones; Station handles the spreadsheet entries and emails without anyone touching a computer.

👕

Inventory and Asset Tracking

Scan asset tags or SKUs during cycle counts and have each scan automatically update your inventory spreadsheet or POST to your asset management system. Multi-device support means an entire team can count simultaneously.

🛍

Retail and Point of Sale

Use a phone as a handheld scanner at a checkout counter, trade show, or pop-up shop. Station injects the barcode directly into your POS or order entry software as keyboard input. No hardware scanner or USB dongle required.

📚

Libraries and Asset Loans

Scan book barcodes or equipment tags and route them directly into your catalog or loan management software via keyboard emulation. Batch mode lets staff work through large check-in or check-out sessions quickly.

🏢

Manufacturing and Production

Scan serial numbers or production barcodes at each stage and have Station call your MES or ERP API automatically. Foreground window detection means the right system gets updated based on which station is actively in use.

🏠

Property and Facilities Management

Scan QR codes or barcodes on equipment, rooms, or service points during inspections. Station can log each scan to a Google Sheet shared with your team in real time, giving everyone a live view of inspection progress.

🎓

Schools and Universities

Track textbooks, equipment loans, lab supplies, and library assets without purchasing dedicated scanner hardware. Any faculty or student device can run Barcode Bridge, and data flows directly into shared spreadsheets.

🏁

Events and Ticketing

Validate tickets or scan attendee badges at entry points using any phone. Station logs each scan with a timestamp and device identifier, giving you a real-time count of entries across all scanning stations simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Barcode Bridge

Do I need to install anything on my phone to get started?

Yes. Install the Barcode Bridge app on your iOS, Android, or other supported device. It is a free download. On your desktop, install Barcode Bridge Station. Once both are running, open Station and it will display a QR code. Scan that code with the Bridge app to pair instantly. No IP addresses, no port configuration, no network setup beyond that.

Can I use Barcode Bridge with my existing inventory or ERP software?

Yes, in two ways. The keyboard emulation action types the scanned barcode into any application that accepts keyboard input. No API or integration work is needed on the ERP side. If your system has an API, the API call action in Station can POST scan data directly to it. In many cases you can use keyboard emulation for daily operation and switch to an API action if a tighter integration is needed later.

Does all scan data stay on our network, or does it go to the cloud?

All scan data travels directly from the Bridge app on your phone to Station on your computer over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. No data is sent to TekCore servers or any external cloud service during normal operation. The only external connections are the optional Google Sheets and email actions, which you configure with your own credentials and which only run if you set them up explicitly.

How many phones can connect to one Station at the same time?

Multiple devices can connect to a single Station instance simultaneously. Each device appears in the Station dashboard with its own name, OS, and IP address, and scans from each device are attributed individually. You can filter the scan log or workflow rules by device if you need to treat scans from different phones differently.

Does Barcode Bridge work with enterprise mobile computers?

Yes. When Barcode Bridge is installed on a supported enterprise mobile computer, it uses the device’s native scanner SDK to capture scans from the built-in laser or imager instead of the camera. This gives you the ergonomics and read performance of dedicated scanner hardware with the same workflow automation that Station provides on the receiving end.

What happens to scans if the Station computer isn’t reachable when I scan?

The Bridge app queues scans locally in an SQLite database when Station is unreachable. As soon as connectivity is restored, queued scans are delivered to Station in order. This means operators can continue scanning through brief network interruptions or if the Station computer needs to restart, without losing any scan records.
